Scripture

8 Yes, this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have. 9 They are prophesying lies to you in my name. I have not sent them,” declares the Lord.Jeremiah 29:8-9
9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.1 Timothy 6:9-10
3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.2 Timothy 4:3-5

Confession

Merciful God, What do we gain if we acquire all that the world has for us, but lose sight of Your everlasting Kingdom? Fill us with Your love. Keep us from fear. Strengthen us to complete the work to which You have called us. We confess we sell ourselves short and trade the eternal for the temporary. Forgive us for being satisfied with superficial accolades and earthly possessions. Renew our commitment to Your call upon us. Give us an eager willingness to prioritize others above ourselves. May we engage fully in all that You are doing among us. Amen.
